Garden-Themed Wedding Setup at KL Convention Centre

In the heart of Kuala Lumpur, an underused outdoor space was given a new purpose through a contemporary tropical landscape designed to bring nature closer to urban life.

The project involved the transformation of a previously hard-surfaced commercial outdoor area into a layered green environment for employees, visitors, and guests. The brief was to create a landscape that felt welcoming and refined while remaining practical for a busy urban setting.

Our approach focused on one central idea: bringing the character of a tropical garden into a modern built environment.

A Landscape Designed Around People

The existing space was surrounded by contemporary architecture and hard surfaces, creating a functional environment but one that lacked warmth and visual connection with nature.

Rather than filling the area with plants, we developed the landscape around the way people would move through and experience the space.

Planting zones were carefully positioned along pedestrian paths and key gathering areas, creating natural transitions between circulation, seating, and open spaces. Taller tropical foliage provided structure and privacy, while lower planting introduced softness around the edges.

Bringing the Tropics Into the City

The planting palette was selected to reflect the lush character of Malaysia’s tropical environment while remaining suitable for an urban commercial setting.

A combination of palms, broad-leaf tropical plants, layered foliage, ornamental grasses, and selected flowering species created variation in height, texture, and form.

Designing for Kuala Lumpur’s Climate

A successful tropical landscape needs to respond to its environment. Plant selections were assessed based on sunlight exposure, humidity, rainfall, maintenance requirements, and their ability to perform within the specific conditions of the site.

From Concept to Completion

Following the initial site assessment and design development, planting locations and material requirements were mapped out before work began. Existing surfaces were prepared, planting beds were established, and the supporting landscape infrastructure was installed.

The final stage focused on detailing. Plant heights, spacing, sightlines, and transitions between materials were adjusted on site to ensure that the finished landscape felt balanced from every approach.

Creating a Greener Urban Experience

The completed landscape transformed a previously underused commercial area into a more inviting environment for everyday use.

By combining tropical planting, natural textures, contemporary materials, and careful spatial planning, we created an environment that feels distinctly connected to its Malaysian surroundings while remaining relevant to modern urban life.
